I don't want to sound dumb or anything, but I've never really known if I was pronouncing Enjolras correctly. I've tried looking it up, but many sites go 50/50 in pronouncing the "s" like "ahn-jol-rahs" where as others have just "ahn-jol-rah". now i know in french the ending "s" is not pronounced often, so i'm just honestly confused. care to help me out with this?
Several sources list [ɑ̃ʒolʁa] as the standard French pronunciation.
ɑ̃ = nasalized French /ɑ/, the same sound in Jean.
ʒ = the “z” in azure.
ʁ = a very guttural “r”
That said, I distinctly remember an audio clip of Actual French Guy™ Claude-Michel Schönberg voicing post-vocalic n and the final consonant. It’s possible he’s speaking in a regional dialect (he’s from Bretagne), but that doesn’t affect its legitimacy. Does anyone remember where to find this?
