i loved aaron tveit, but a part of me will never get over the fact that david thaxton wasn’t cast in the movie. seriously, if the powers that be wanted to cast a critically acclaimed, attractive musical theater star, why not cast one who has played the role before, loves the brick, seems to understand his character fundamentally, and is beloved by many members of the fandom?
jeremy hays and david thaxton do the best final battles ever! i can’t decide whose is better. jeremy’s operatic “rise” is so powerful, and david’s “is free” is so passionate!
i keep having this weird dream involving a flying david thaxton rescuing me from the path of a fangirling drew sarich. no matter how many times i have this dream, it doesn’t seem any less weird.
when i saw les mis in 2006, i had john owen-jones, jeff nicholson, david thaxton, gina beck, and sabrina aloueche as members of the cast, long before they became famous in the west end and the fandom. it was awesome.
years ago i went to a gig with david thaxton, shonagh daly, kerry ellis, shaun escoffery and some random members of the ensemble at that time. it’s only now that i really appreciate just how special that night was.
i’m very disappointed that david thaxton is not going to be in the movie. i kept on holding out hope, as he was one of the very best performers to be in the musical recently, in my opinion.
i didn’t feel like there was anything special about the 08/09 cast except for david thaxton, to be honest. david shannon, nancy sullivan, and jon robyns always gave enjoyable and understandable performances when i went to the queen’s, and they were good — but not the greatest, and not the best.
i hate it when people say that david thaxton is the best enjolras ever. i bet no one who says this has seen every single actor who has played enjolras. david thaxton was amazing, but there can always be someone who is better than him. he can be your favorite enjolras — but he is not the best one now and forever.
i can’t bring myself to look at the david thaxton tag. every time i do, i feel the overwhelming need to cry that i won’t ever see his enjolras live.
in “the final battle,” i prefer an enjolras who goes high and clear on “is free” (e.g. john owen-jones, killian donnelly, oliver thornton, and david bardsley) over one who goes rough and ragged (e.g. ramin karimloo, david thaxton, and drew sarich). i feel like it better embodies the hope and majesty of the line.
