lea michele kinda became one of my favorite éponines afer watching her perform during the les mis concert (2008).
i’ve never understood (in the musical, anyway) why éponine doesn’t go and confront cosette about stealing her man.
i think rosalind james is the best éponine, and far better than samantha barks. i wish she could have played the role in the 25th anniversary concert.
the end of act one stirs such emotion in me. all the characters expressing their hopes and dreams and despair, the whole company marching forward, the flag waving behind — it has to be one of the most wonderful, epic moments in theatre!
i think craig mather would be the best marius if he hadn’t used some of the silliest facial expressions.
i can sometimes forget the book characterizations when there is a dispute between the book and musical portrayals, but i have so much difficulty taking things like marius the revolutionary or javert the religious man seriously.
when i was young, i thought “i dreamed a dream” was the most boring song in the show. now it’s my favorite; whenever i listen to it, i remember the struggles i had with anorexia. i know how it feels to have all these expectations of what life will be once you accomplish your dreams, only to have those same dreams shattered when something you clung to was revealed to be utterly faithless and terrible for you.
when i used to listen to or watch the musical, i would fantasize about playing éponine. But now that i’ve seen how much amanda seyfried brought to her role, i’d love nothing more than to be a soprano and play cosette.
i think that the reason i don’t like ramin karimloo as valjean is because to me, he is the perfect enjolras.
i have a soft spot for the tac, but have to admit maguire is pretty far from my interpretation of enjolras … so now whenever i watch it, i pretend the real enjolras was sick that week, and combeferre built a buffybot-style replacement with a slightly malfunctioning personality chip.
though i loved him as courfeyrac in the movie, fra fee looks exactly like my mental image of marius from the description in the brick. i’m desperately jealous of everyone who got to see fra playing marius on the west end!
i once saw a performance of drew sarich as javert and during the confrontation, valjean’s mouth was so close to his that it looked like they almost kissed. ever since then, i ship bread/stars but only envision drew sarich as javert.
i wish they had kept “do you hear the people sing” how it is sung in the musical so we could have seen aaron sing it as passionately as other enjolras before him; for example ramin karimloo and david thaxton.
the “drink with me” reprise on the csr makes me cry every time i hear it.
i created a mashup of my dream cast. drew sarich plays four of the roles.
